Student-hosting in Herts and Essex
It’s always nice to have some fresh faces in your life. Have you ever thought about hosting an international exchange student? You probably should. Having a young student in your home can be a really rewarding experience for everyone involved. Student-hosting in Herts and Essex can help you.
Student-hosting in Herts and Essex organise such experiences thanks to the language immersion courses arranged with schools in the Canary Islands. These language immersion courses are organised through Children In Britain, a language school based in the sunny Canaries.
The children are accompanied by their local teachers who are with them during the day and take care of them during their entire stay in the UK. The teachers ensure their students behave in a correct manner and follow the rules while they are in our country.
The programme is full-time. Students leave early in the morning to go to lessons. Then, there is an arranged sports activity in the afternoon or they spend the day on organised trips. They visit places of interest in the UK such as The University of Cambridge, the Natural History Museum, Mme. Tussaud’s or Camden with its market and lock.
As a student-hosting family, you will accommodate one or two students. They will have breakfast and supper in your normal family environment. They take a packed lunch in the morning to eat while they’re out in lessons or a day trip. You are free for the main part of the day to do your own thing.
You will receive a payment for each student that stays with you. More than that, though, your household will enjoy the heartening experience of having young people from another culture and background staying with your family. You will experience the language, the culture and the warmth that these children will bring to you.
Because you have a tax-free allowance on revenue made from your home, your income from student hosting is likely to be completely tax free. You can make up to £7,500 a year before you have to start paying tax.
It is a chance for these children to come into contact with the British way of life, but equally your chance to familiarise with their way of life. If you have children of you own of a similar age, then student hosting truly is a magnificent experience.
What our students are looking for is an authentic family life experience and, above all, the opportunity to practice their English in everyday situations. You will be helping them to build confidence and fluency in a supportive environment.
The only expenses you’ll incur when hosting foreign students are the extra costs of food and maybe a few bills.
If you’re providing dinner you can reduce your costs by including the student in your family evening meal. Cooking a separate meal for them isn’t cost or time effective.
Although having another person in the house may increase energy costs, if you already have a family it shouldn’t be much more.
Being Part of It
We think that hosting international students in your spare room is a brilliant way to make money and meet new people.
You get to learn about different cultures, forge new relationships and even visit students in their home countries in the future.
And if you don’t get on with one student you’re safe in the knowledge that they’re only there for a limited period of time, so you don’t have to put up with them forever.
